Painting people — figures and faces — has always been the most challenging and rewarding for me. That being said, I strive to go beyond portraiture to capture mood or evoke emotion that resonates more broadly.
I paint from life and from photos, and I often get my subjects from Instagram. Social media is how we tell stories today, as art has been for ages. But while we typically look at an image on Instagram for just a few seconds, the best art is passed down through generations. As an artist I’m excited by the juxtaposition of new and traditional media — and the possibility of transforming the temporary into something more timeless.
